5.      There are more spiders on Lake Bridgeport than there are grains of sand in the Sahara.

6.      My neighbors will usually be very friendly and helpful.

7.      When I encounter a car coming towards me and the driver raises one or two fingers - that’s a sign of trouble.

8.      I plan to live way off in the woods but at least the EMT folks and the Sheriff know how to find me.

9.      It will only take 5-10 minutes for the 911-response team to get to my place.

Answers:

1.      True. Nothing is as easy living here as it is in town. Getting good reliable help requires much patience and skill. Most folks find that they can save big money by doing most of the work themselves. If you plan on building a home and you bring in a builder or subcontracting crew from Fort Worth or farther, plan on seeing them arrive about 10:00 AM and then they will quit about 3:00PM. I’ve been on this lake for many years and it never fails to amaze me. Those who can do it themselves usually stay. Those who don’t usually pack up and leave within a few years.

2.      False. It’s a paradox but the farther out in the woods you go, the more your immediate neighbors will know about all of your comings and goings. If you like personal privacy stay in the city.

3.      False. How on earth are you going to coax that rattler off your front porch? What about the Armadillos that plunder your yard with nightly potholes? Suppose you run into an angry 300 pound Feral Hog? Suppose your beloved pet is being attacked by a pack of Coyotes?

4.      False. Try stomping on one and it will probably get your ankle. They are almost impossible to club to death. If you do manage to club it in the house, its black blood will leave a permanent stain that is impossible to remove – even with the strongest bleach. Best thing is to get a broom and then open the door and sweep it out.

5.      True. What more can I write? If you can’t abide spiders this isn’t the place for you. Go to our Nature Survival 101 page and read up on all the critters.

6.      True. Our residents at Lake Bridgeport are very friendly and always helpful. After all, we are in this together.

7.      False. It’s an old custom here to raise your index finger while still keeping your hand on the driver’s wheel. That means “Howdy neighbor.” Some folks will raise two fingers. Never raise the middle finger of your hand unless it’s accompanied by your index finger.

8.      False. The 911 maps are still being refined. There are places here that no one knows how to get to.

9.      False. See answer to #8

10. True. Plan on making weekly trips to your favorite grocery store and make good lists. Purchase a deep freeze. Otherwise, you will be spending a King’s ransom on gas!

11. False. Plan on spending ¾ of all of your time on constant repair and upkeep. Did you know that lakes are very hard on docks? Did you know that our Tornado Alley weather is very hard on your house, your dock, and your land? Did you know that Poison Oak could take over your entire lot in one or two spring weeks? Did you know that the dreaded Fire Ants will take over your entire lot and destroy your electrical in one or two days after a good spring rain? Did you know that you can actually watch the native grass and abundant briars growing before your eyes?

12. False. It depends on where you live. If you take your water from the lake, you will have to spend a small fortune on filtration and purification and constantly keeping up, repairing, protecting, and moving your pump etc. If you drill a well – it’s a big gamble. Go to our The Water page to learn more.
